Dr. H. Ross Hawkins is passionate about hummingbirds. He fell in love with them in 1988, and in 1996 founded the Hummingbird Society, a nonprofit organization with the aim of protecting the thirty species at risk of extinction and for which he currently serves as Executive Director. Over the years his understanding and appreciation of these flying jewels have grown, and his presentations—always rich with eye-popping images—are popular with audiences of every type.
While many of his presentations are educational in nature, he believes the hummingbird is a very complicated being, capable of individual feats that we can use to our advantage. Focusing on the question, ‘What does the hummingbird have to do with me?’ he makes the case that hummingbirds can be viewed as metaphors for our personal growth, a way to respond to life’s challenges the way a hummingbird does.
