Vicki Sandler is presently and has been the Executive Director of the Arizona Independent Scheduling Administrator Association (AzISA) since 2008. AzISA was formed and approved by FERC in 1998 to facilitate open, non-discriminatory transmission access by electric competitors on the grid within Arizona because there is no Regional Transmission Organization. Its members are diverse, consisting of Local Utilities, Independent Power Producers, Load Serving Entities, Aggregators and End Use Customers. After twenty-five years in the energy industry, Ms. Sandler became President of Wearthy (“worthy”) Ideas, LLC which she created in 2007 to provide energy consulting services, as well as employee productivity and development coaching. Both services build on her extensive leadership experience. For ten years prior, Ms. Sandler was President of the start-up company, APS Energy Services (APSES), headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona. APSES is wholly owned by Pinnacle West Capital Corporation (PNW) which also owns the largest utility in Arizona, Arizona Public Service Company (APS). Under Ms. Sandler’s leadership, APSES grew from nothing to $220 million annual revenue and $80 million in assets. APSES was a competitive energy services company providing commodity risk management and procurement services, energy efficiency, district energy, green and sustainability solutions in California, Arizona, Nevada, and Texas. APSES was the first competitive electric provider to serve in California’s and Arizona’s deregulated markets, which opened in 1997 and 1999, respectively. Among its many customers were the University of California/Southern California campuses, ERCOT, the City of Phoenix, Cisco Systems, and Arizona State University (ASU). Fifteen years before assuming her duties with APSES, Ms. Sandler was the Director of Energy Marketing and Direct Access Manager at APS. Prior to that she worked with the PNW Chairman on strategies for competitive markets. She also negotiated competitive wholesale and retail power contracts, handled rate cases and integrated resource planning cases as senior legal counsel representing APS before FERC and the local utilities commission. Ms. Sandler is licensed to practice law in Arizona. Ms. Sandler has recently been a board member of the Western Power Trading Forum, the Alliance for Retail Energy Markets and AzISA. In the past, she was Chair of Edison Electric Institute’s power supply task force.
Ms. Sandler has a BS in Economics from the University of Arizona graduating Phi Beta Kappa, where she authored a recognized paper with economics Nobel Prize winner, Dr. Vernon Smith . She has a Juris Doctorate graduating with distinction from ASU.
She has been active for the past 30 years as chair of several committees, including the Valley of the Sun (VOS) public policy committee, past Board Chair for the Ahwatukee YMCA and is a Board member for the VOS YMCA. She also serves on a non-profit Coaching for Literacy Board and is a candidate member of the National Speaker’s Association. She is a speaker and soon-to-be published author of Find Your Scream, Live Your Dream, based on experiences in the workplace and in life to optimize human potential and double productivity. Her son is a junior, and her daughter is a senior at Arizona State University. Her husband, Jeff, is a major felony prosecutor.
