President’s Message
“No pressure, no diamonds.” —Mary Case
These challenging times present a tremendous opportunity for each of us to re-examine our business models and our priorities. This is not the time to melt down or freeze up, but rather to become crystal clear about your message, your value, and your purpose.
At a chance pivotal moment in my life, I heard a motivational speaker say that a lump of coal composed of disorganized carbon atoms, when exposed to heat and pressure, reorganizes itself to withstand the stress, forming a diamond. Not only has that metaphor proven true in my life, as I write this, I realize that it was a speaker that shared this bit of wisdom. His words help me reframe adversity into opportunities.
Under the heat and pressure, are you reorganizing your carbon atoms? Are you focused on finding innovative ways to share your unique experiences and talents to help others rearrange theirs? As speakers, our words can make a huge difference for members of our audiences, helping them become more resilient, more brilliant, and more valuable.
Sincerely,
Michelle May, M.D. mmay@amihungry.com
NSA-Arizona President

Building a One-Page Business Plan—For Speakers
A wise person once said, “If you can’t describe what you’re doing as a process, you don’t know what you’re doing.” The One Page Business Plan—For Speakers will help you develop the process you’ll need to keep your speaking business focused and on-track for an entire year—on one page.
In this exciting one-hour teleseminar, you will ask and answer these five key questions: 1. What do I want to accomplish? 2. Why? 3. How will I move from vision to reality? 4. What will I need to measure? 5. What’s the actual work I’ll have to do?
Our facilitator is Les Taylor of Achievement Solutions. Les is a recognized expert in performance improvement. His presentations on leadership, management, and performance improvement have been presented throughout the U.S. and on four continents. Les holds a bachelor’s of science degree from Arizona State University and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy.

Living Kidney Donation: NSA-AZ member Risa Simon was almost the recipient of a new kidney. As noted in an article in Sun City West Independent, at the last minute her donor was told about a medical anomaly that prevented the donation.
Although Risa was disheartened by the news, the publicity has given her a chance to get out her message about living kidney donations. Most people mistakenly think they have to be dead to donate, as Risa explains on her outreach website http://www.kidneykinships.org and in a two-minute inspirational movie at Inspiring Living Donation. More than 1337 Arizonans are, like Risa, waiting for the right donor. Go to Risa’s site for details on how you can help.

HUMOR TIP OF THE MONTH
By Robert Mac Robert@robertmac.com Be confident. Audiences can sense timidness, so deliver humor with a “!” instead of a “?” and they’ll buy what you’re saying.
WORD TRIPPER FROM THE PLATFORM
By Barbara McNichol editor@barbaramcnichol.com
Be precise! Don’t let this pesky pairing trip you up on the platform or the page.
Benevolence, beneficence – “Benevolence” is the desire to do good to others, be kind, charitable. “Beneficence” is active goodness, kindness, or charity. Both words can refer to the kind act or gift itself, but in general, benevolence is wanting to do good and beneficence is actually doing good. “The employer’s benevolence was demonstrated by his beneficence in giving all his employees holiday bonuses.”
