President’s Message

Is Everything Important?

Is Everything Important?

When we haven’t clearly identified what’s most important, everything seems important. This is why, in my view, people get frustrated with their lack of success in managing their speaking businesses.

Instead of taking time to identify the real priorities of life in general, or the priorities of the day in particular, everything takes on the same level of importance. When everything’s important, nothing’s important.

We’re the ones who have to choose our priorities and make sure our daily priorities align with our annual aspirations.

The key? Get clear on what you want 2012 to look like. I recommend writing—yes, writing—a SMART vision statement for 2012—one that’s Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Time Bound. Without this specificity, your vision for a better life has no power.

With a clear, compelling vision for what you want to accomplish, you can prioritize what your month, week and day will look like. Whether you want a fatter pocketbook or a slimmer waistline, it’s about making certain daily activities a priority. It’s about contacting a specific number of customers or prospects. It’s about eating good food instead of feel-good food. It’s all about committing to priorities.

You make your speaking business better this year than last when you don’t make everything a priority.

Sincerely,

Les Taylor les@lestaylor.net

KEYNOTE SPEAKER – Growing Your Business When YOU Are the Business! with Mark LeBlanc

Mark LeBlanc shares keen insights and sound strategies that could make or break your speaking career. If your calendar isn’t where you want it to be, make this your must-attend meeting for jumpstarting success in 2012!

You will discover:

  • how to put more money in your pocket,
  • how to position yourself for higher fees,
  • how to create a marketing plan that gets you booked, and
  • how to set up a system for staying focused on a daily basis.

Mark joined NSA in 1983 at the ripe old age of 22. Today, he’s considered a seasoned veteran by many—and one of the few people NSA legends turn to for business counsel.

He speaks to small business groups, professional associations, and corporate sales groups who want their people to think more like business owners than salespeople. He’s been sponsored by Siemens (13 bookings) and J.P. Morgan Chase Bank (15 bookings) to share his strategies with small business owners across the U.S.

Mark founded the Small Business Success Coaching Network and has been successful in licensing his content and intellectual property. His book Growing Your Business has averaged one volume order (50+ copies) a week for the last 500 weeks. Walking the 500-mile Camino de Santiago pilgrimage across Northern Spain inspired his newest book, Never be the Same.

CANDIDATE CONNECTION —10 Things I Learned About Making Money on My Way to Becoming a Professional Speaker with Patricia Drain

In this presentation, you’ll learn how Patricia became a professional speaker and came up with the “hot topics” people hired her to speak about. But then she realized she was leaving money on the table—lots of it.

Over the years, Patricia discovered two ways to sell: a pushy way and an authentic way. She simply didn’t feel comfortable “selling herself” until she mastered that skill of authenticity.

Be sure to attend and come away with 10 clear, authentic ways to make the money you deserve as a speaker.

Patricia Drain is a business strategist, multiple streams of income expert, Internet marketing specialist, and professional speaker. She has more than 20 years of experience as a business owner in Phoenix and has built and sold several companies.

MARKETING YOURSELF ONLINE

By Rich Hamilton rich@richhamilton.com

Are you promoting your digital business in everything you do? Promote your website on business cards, flyers, and in ads. Promote it in books and on CDs and DVDs. I didn’t say “put” it there; I said “promote” it. That means offer a reason to visit by giving something they can download for free. Make it like a “coupon.” In return for the free information, you grab their email address and build your email list. Visit SellBetterToolBox.com for info on managing your lists.

WORD TRIPPER FROM THE PLATFORM

By Barbara McNichol editor@barbaramcnichol.com

Undo, undue – To “undo” is to reverse the doing of, to open or unfasten, or to bring to ruin. “Undue” means excessive, unjustifiable, improper; not yet payable. “If you undo my buttons with undue haste, they will pop off!”
