Special Speaker Lab Experience for February
You stand up, move forward, open your mouth and what you say during the next 2-3 minutes makes a lasting first impression. And as the old saying goes, "You never get a second chance to make a first impression!"
Is your first impression as impactful as you want it to be? You have an opportunity for an expert opinion of your first impression including suggestions for improving it. This applies to the opening 3 minutes of your keynote, your training or facilitation, your blog or book, and even the written content of your marketing materials.
The first 6 people to sign up for the February Speakers Lab on will get up to 3 minutes to deliver your opening, followed by 7 minutes of encouraging feedback and suggestions for improvement. Participants then get the vicarious insight that comes from hearing 9 other people practice their opening and get encouragement and suggestions. Some of those ideas will be valuable to you too.
Don Thoren, a Lab founder and Lab leader for its first 14 years, has been asked to help reinvent a post COVID Lab experience for the benefit of our members. Don is a CMC, CPAE Speaker Hall of Fame, and named to the class of 2012 Legends of the Speaking Profession. He is among the founders of NSA and both a Chapter and National Past President.
The plan is to first focus on openings, and then follow with constructing key points, transitions, combining emotionality with rationality, closing and call to action if appropriate. The structure will be to have as many people as possible practice short segments. The feedback will focus on (1) what went well and why, followed by (2) what could be improved or enriched and how.
“Speakers Lab is one of the greatest features provided by NSA-Arizona. It is designed to be a safe place to not only practice and hone speaking skills, the feedback given by NSA members is extremely valuable and well worth the price of membership. I highly recommend Speakers Lab to anyone serious about advancing their speaking career.” — Rita Hudgens
