Black Belt Negotiating for Speakers

with Michael Soon Lee, CSP

Today, more than ever, professional speakers need to be able to withstand constant push-back against our fees. Speakers who can justify their value to clients and be creative about pricing are busier than ever but what about everyone else? Did you ever notice that some people seem to be born negotiators while others are just more reluctant to haggle? Learn the secrets of how to defend your fee from attack by using ancient martial arts techniques. This program will save you tens of thousands of dollars immediately and show you how to deal with people from diverse cultures as well as others who hire speakers.

Ask yourself if knowing the following would make you more money:

  • How to tell planners your fee is firm in a way they can understand
  • Getting buyers to raise their offer without saying a word
  • Finding out what is really the “bottom line”
  • How to speak for “free” while making thousands of dollars
  • Why “win-win” can cost you big bucks
  • Ways to practice your negotiating skills without risk
  • How to set a fee that is attractive yet extremely profitable
  • Why price is the least negotiable aspect of bargaining
  • Stopping “nibbling” on seemingly small items
  • Gaining leverage in bargaining
  • Why women speakers need to be more aggressive when haggling
  • Staying emotionally uninvolved in the transaction
  • Effectively dealing with ultimatums
  • How to respond when people try to renegotiate previously-ratified contracts

Michael Soon Lee, DBA, CSP, has been a professional negotiator for more than three decades and has haggled his way around the globe. He has negotiated motion pictures deals, multi-million dollar real estate transactions and even discounts on gas for his car! Dr. Lee will show you how to make thousands of dollars more a year by becoming a world-class negotiator. He is the author of Black Belt Negotiating and dozens of articles on the art of bargaining. Michael is a former president of the NSA Northern California chapter and former chair of Voices of Experience.

How to Work with a Bureau or a Speaker Representative

with Lindy Rosenson

Speakers are often eager to learn how to work with a bureau or a speaker representative. Lindy Rosenson, owner of ALR Speakers, will address the most frequently asked questions. We'll discuss questions like:

  • What do the people at the committee table look for and what turns them off?
  • What makes a great demo reel?
  • What are the “no-no’s” of networking with fellow speakers and meeting planners?
  • How do I find an agent/bureau/manager and what’s the difference? How do I work with each?
  • What endears you to a speaker? What makes you vow to never work with them?
  • Do meeting planners talk to each other?
  • How can I put my name on the short list of “go-to speakers”?
  • If I’ve "blown it” on stage, how do I recover?

Do you have questions of your own? Bring them with you for this casual and highly informative chat!

Lindy was born to put on a show! Her earliest memories are of organizing backyard plays with neighborhood children, managing class projects and performing on stages across the US and Europe as a student manager of the Indiana University Singing Hoosiers. While nurturing her three daughters, Lindy raised well over a million dollars for local schools, churches and nonprofits. After establishing her own network marketing business, training her team and leading them to success, she discovered a perfect fit for her management and performance skills in the professional speaking environment.

ALR Speakers is unique. While traditional bureaus wait for the phone to ring, Lindy actively searches for the best audiences for her speakers, creating a high quality experience for both the client and professional speaker. Surrounded by some of the most brilliant thought leaders in the world, Lindy is grateful for the life she and her husband have created in the busy suburbs of Chicago, the quiet Sonoran desert of Arizona or wherever their travels take them.
