How to keep material fresh and find new content
Chuck Reaves, CSP, CPAE

When we go into the grocery store and see some perishables on sale, what is the first thing we look for? The expiration date. Lower prices usually indicate an inferior product. In this case, the product is inferior because it is about to become useless for its original, intended purpose.

Our content is like that.

Knowledge is our product; our delivery is our distribution. This includes our marketing, customer service, etc. The best distribution cannot overcome a dated—or out-of-date—product. The knowledge we used to build our businesses may become worthless, unless…

  1. We have a method for determining the product expiration date
  2. We know which products to keep and which to discard
  3. We know some alternatives for where we can discard the dated materials
  4. We continually shop for new ideas
    • From clients
    • From the marketplace
    • But NOT from other speakers
