President’s Message—The New Year is in Full Swing
It happened again, like it always does. Blink three times during the holidays and suddenly the new year is in full swing! Time is no one’s servant. But the times we spend together make the times we don’t much more productive and profitable. Just ask anyone who attended our January meeting or joined our inaugural Webinar chronicling Roger Brook’s Journey to a Million Dollar a Year Business.
Launching into the middle of the first quarter, February is short but packed with things to love. Roll your sleeves up for our extended chapter meeting. You'll refine your business plan into actionable, accountable, focused steps to get the decade of the 20’s roaring! Spend some intimate time with Experts at our Speaker’s Lab and Living Room Forums to refine your plan even more.
And here’s a new idea inspired by the 14th; enlighten three friends, colleagues, or acquaintances about what you love being connected to and collaborating with NSA-Arizona. Like a box of chocolates, you never know what good comes from sharing. Personally, a few minutes with you always leaves me inspired, challenged, and reminded that I too can serve humanity and make a mark on this world. It is exactly where I want to be. Your turn… Happy Valentines!

KEYNOTE SPEAKER—Vision 2020: Set Your Business Up for Success with Kristin Arnold, CSP
In a world of constant interruptions and shiny pennies that keep you distracted, Kristin Arnold, CSP will lead you through a dynamic workshop to combat these distractions. She'll help you create your own personal professional speaker business strategy and plan for 2020.
As a strategic planning facilitator, Kristin knows the power of having a simple one-page plan to propel your business. Just for her NSA colleagues, Kristin modified her corporate process to serve the professional speaker.
In this workshop, she will share her step-by-step process. You'll identify your key strategic initiatives, key tasks, and a cadence of execution to move you closer to your goals. More importantly, she’ll share with you templates that were made specifically for professional speakers. You get to pick and choose, adapt what you like and leave the rest behind.
Kristin makes a bold promise (if you stay for the entire day): You will walk out with a one-page plan that will guide your business in 2020.
Whether you have only been in the business for a short while or you’re a seasoned vet like Kristin, please join us. You’ll understand and appreciate the importance of creating a well-thought out plan to substantially increase your success in the next year.

SPEAKERS LAB—Cultivate Your Speaking Skills—Reason to Be at Speakers Lab #42—Enrich
“Education, or enrichment, is a dynamic, evolving, lifelong process. Every time you look, sensitively with awareness, your vision grows.” —John Paul Caponigro
At Speakers Lab, our goal is to enrich all those who attend. If you attend, but are not one of the presenters, you will still benefit from the presentations and the feedback.
NSA-Arizona Speakers Lab is known for providing valuable feedback from skilled evaluators. We do this in a structured environment that includes guidelines for both evaluators and speakers. This helps to provide supportive, constructive, and useful advice.
We believe in this process so much that every meeting includes a Guest Enricher, a member who is highly experienced in their craft and in providing feedback. Meetings often end with additional words of wisdom from the Guest Enricher. The Guest Enricher not only brings value to everyone in attendance, they also provide a model for enriching others.
Is there an area of your speaking or your speaking business that would benefit from solid feedback? Come join us at Speakers Lab and experience the valuable feedback and encouragement to help you improve in any area of the speaking business.
No RSVP is required to attend. We meet the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays from 9:30-11:45 a.m. at NSA headquarters. However, to speak at the Lab, you must be a chapter member in good standing.
We ask that you attend as a participant twice, before you sign up for time to speak. In a normal meeting, we have three 30-minute slots. Speakers can use the time to receive feedback and tips for a specific purpose, like trying out new material or trying a new form of speaking.
To claim your spot, contact Natalie Sayer. Please put “Speakers Lab” in the subject line.
Upcoming Guest Enrichers
2/11/20 Natalie Sayer
2/25/20 Beth Terry, CSP
3/10/20 Roger Rickard

What Happened to the 2016 Convention Recordings?
Recently, someone asked for my help in researching a topic, so I turned to my iPad app to search for some convention breakout recordings. I found some items from Influence 2016 and I gave him the web address for mediastoreonline.com, which hosted the recordings available for download. He said the website isn't functioning. I tried it myself, and he was absolutely right. Even the home page was inaccessible. Does that mean we have lost the entire collection for that year?
Fortunately no. The 2016 convention recordings are now located at another site where they are available for sale, but not for us to listen to anymore. We are going to move the mp3 files to the chapter website. You'll be able to log in with your user ID and password and listen to them there. Meanwhile, here are some of my favorite titles from that convention:
Creating Mass Influence: How to Become THE Authority In Your Industry by Teresa De Grosbois
Dominate Your Niche! 7 Proven Strategies for Growing Your Speaking Business by Chuck Galagher
Insights From the Million Dollar Speakers Group by Ford Saeks
Health Strategies for Surviving Business Travel by Marlisa Brown

And many more.

WORD TRIPPER FROM THE PLATFORM
By Barbara McNichol
Do you ever confuse this word pair? Now you know the difference so you won't get tripped up!
Inspire, aspire – “Inspire” means to fill, affect, or influence with a specified feeling or thought; to produce or arouse feeling or thought; to exert a stimulating or beneficial effect upon. “Aspire” is to long, aim, or seek ambitiously; be desirous for something great or that has high value (usually followed by “to”). “By creating Word Trippers, I aspire to influence millions to use commonly confused words correctly. I hope I inspire you to do so, too.”
VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT—Lynne Wellish
Where are you originally from?
Do you share your home with pets or family?
I have one cat, Holly GoLightly, one dog, Isadora and one man Brad Greenberg. We've been together 17 years and still loving.
Do you have any hobbies, travels, volunteer work, or other interesting things to share?
I love to bake, do yoga, go to movies and am a hot springs junkie. My husband is a Civil War buff and a lover of Shakespeare, so I am trying to widen my circle of interests.
What is your speaking specialty?
I am a hospitality educator. I educate meeting and event planners about the nuts and bolts of meeting and event planning. I educate hospitality sales executives on how to sell to meeting professionally.
What kind of work did you do before you started speaking?
My previous experience was in the hotel and meetings and events industry.
Are you still doing that or other work in addition to speaking?
Yes, I still consult coach, mentor and train meeting and event planners. Meeting and event supplier companies hire me to exceed their sales and revenue goals by applying little known and rare marketing tools that unleash the selling magnetic, making their services irresistible.
When did you start speaking?
I started speaking 5 years ago.
When did you join NSA-Arizona?
I joined NSA-Arizona 4 years ago.
How have you volunteered for our chapter?
I have worked on the Special Events Committee. Currently I serve as as the Co-chair of the Living Room Forum.
For you, what is the best advantage of NSA-Arizona membership?
The best advantage of NSA is the mentorship and guidance from those who have traveled down the path before me.
