Welcome to the May 2019 issue of the NSA-Arizona News Flash!
President’s Message—Transform the Way You Do Business
NSA-Arizona, you are in for a treat with the last two programs of the year. I heard excellent reviews from members about our April program and it only gets better. I want to remind you to take action on the new ideas you learn each month, even if it’s a small one. What action item are you implementing from April's program?
Elizabeth McCormick is our main presenter for May. I had the pleasure of meeting her at the national conference in Dallas last year. So many members and past chapter presidents from around the U.S. recommended her for a knock out program. She will transform the way you do business and has created simple systems to skyrocket your business to the next level. I love her energy and love of people, life and fun. I’m excited and honored that we will have her speaking at our chapter. And I’m especially excited to spend time with her as a fellow member and friend.
The next treat is our new lineup for June. Delatorro McNeal canceled his appearance here in June because of a speaking engagement he couldn’t pass up. We have an AMAZING replacement due to our program chair Stephanie Angelo. Not only was she able to get one fabulous main stage speaker, but three of the most sought-after speakers in our industry. They will all be in the same room and on the same stage.
This is a program you don’t to miss. Randy Pennington CSP, CPAE, Larry Winget CSP, CPAE and Scott McKain CSP, CPAE will speak on "The Power-House Panel: Our 12 Best Ideas." They will continue with, "Anything Else You Want to Ask About Succeeding in the Speaking Business."
So, mark your calendars for the next two programs to round out your NSA-Arizona program year. We look forward to seeing you there. Please stop by and say hello to me at the meeting. Let me know how your experience with NSA-Arizona is going and if I can enhance it in any way. I look forward to seeing you in May and June.
Let’s keep creating unlimited Possibilities,

KEYNOTE SPEAKER— Amplify Your Speech with Elizabeth McCormick
In this high performance presentation, sought after motivational speaker Elizabeth McCormick will deconstruct and dissect her introduction, opening, and one of her signature messages. She'll reveal the speech-writing strategies that keep her booked an average of 100 events a year (paid) without having to constantly rewrite her speech.
Strategy should have been Elizabeth’s middle name. She’ll answer your questions, provide you with her personal speech template, as well as examples of how to use it. You’ll even leave with a bonus gift from Elizabeth to help you Amplify Your Speaking Business.
Attend "Amplify Your Speech" for the following benefits:
- Discover the 3 key elements to create your most impactful opening.
- Learn how to craft your introduction. This allows the emcee, meeting planner, or executive to seed the audience with your desired outcome before you even reach the stage.
- Walk away with a new understanding about speech writing based on Elizabeth’s tried-and-true philosophy of customization.
- Receive Elizabeth's template that has helped her quickly customize her signature speech for hundreds of audiences.
Elizabeth will also reveal her top secret “Rocket Your Referrals” system. She uses it to average at least five paid engagement requests from each of the over 100 engagements she books each year (and you can too). She'll also share how to turn today’s audience into tomorrow’s sales team with her 5-step process to dramatically increase your referrals. And you’ll receive her template to help you get started.
As a former U.S. Army Black Hawk Pilot, Elizabeth McCormick, CSP, learned to take complex systems and break them into sequences for optimal results. By applying this skill to her own keynote speaking career, it has rocketed since she started speaking. She averages over 100 speaking engagements (yes-paid) booked every year since 2014.
Elizabeth is author of more than nineteen published books. She's the Founder and CEO of Soar 2 Success Publishing Company and a U.S. Congressional Veteran Commendation recipient. Because of her social content and presence, Elizabeth was recently named #5 on the list of “Leadership Experts to Follow” online.
Elizabeth serves on the Power Women of NSA Leadership Team. The Global Speakers Summit 2018 in New Zealand chose her as one of the closing speakers. She's also been seen on ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX News and has been featured in the Wall Street Journal.

SPEAKERS LAB—Cultivate Your Speaking—Reason to be at Speakers Lab #38
Set the Stage—to be the catalyst for something that follows later
“It’s not about what you do, but about what I can do after you’re done.” —Alan Weiss
The process in Speakers Lab begins by asking questions before you begin to speak. These are the same questions you need to ask yourself: "Who is the audience?" "What is the purpose of the speech?" "What should the audience get from the speech?"
In Speakers Lab, you receive feedback about your introduction, opening and other aspects of how you set the stage for what follows. We include feedback guidelines not just for the evaluators, but also for the speakers. This is just part of the supportive, constructive, and relevant advice that is provided through Speakers' Lab.
Is there an area of your speaking or your speaking business that would benefit from some feedback? Come join us at Speakers' Lab and experience the valuable feedback and encouragement to help you improve in any area of the speaking business.
No RSVP is required to attend. We meet the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays from 9:30-11:45 a.m. at NSA headquarters. However, to speak at the Lab, you must be a chapter member in good standing.
We ask that you attend as a participant twice, before you sign up for time to speak.
In a normal meeting, we have three 30-minute slots. Speakers receive feedback and tips for a specific purpose, like trying out new material or a new form of speaking.
“Our readers don’t want to just read stories. What they really want is a big button they can push that says, ‘Solve my problem.’ It’s up to us to be the button.” —Brian J. O’Connor, editor at Bankrate.com

WORD TRIPPER FROM THE PLATFORM
By Barbara McNichol
Do you ever confuse this word pair? Now you know the difference so you won't get tripped up!
Parody, parity – “Parody” is a humorous or satirical imitation of a serious piece of communication. As a verb, it means to imitate another for the purpose of ridicule or satire. “Parity” refers to equality, as in amount, status, or character. “The candidates’ attempts to achieve parity in the upcoming election is a parody of a Chinese fire drill.”
SOCIAL MEDIA MARKETING
By Dan Shinder
Content to Grow Your Following, Not for Selling
“This book is for sale,” “I have this event,” “Here comes another webinar,” “Sign up for my service …” "Join my class." Are all your posts on LinkedIn, social media, or your newsletter about what you want your readers to buy? If so, you are jamming what you're selling down the throats of your target market.
If this is the majority of what you are putting out there, you will not build a community around your brand. You will not earn the brand love you need to convert more sales. "Post less sales info to make more sales?" you ask. Absolutely. This is how I built a following of over one million people on social. And I’ve done pretty well. wink
The secret is to post more about the common interest between your brand (you and what you offer) and your target market. Be helpful. Be inclusive. Build your following by doing this and you are perceived as more genuine. You will have more people to sell to who are in love with who you are and what you do.
Happy Marketing! Dan
