KEYNOTE SPEAKER—Power Selling with Social Media with Phil Gerbyshak
Do you create tons of useful content—and have no idea what to do with it—or if you’re creating it right? Are you wondering if you should use LinkedIn…or Twitter…or Facebook…or SnapChat…or Instagram…or Pinterest…to grow your speaking business? Are you on social media–but struggling to get a return on your investment?
Join Phil Gerbyshak as he answers all these questions and more in Power Selling with Social Media. He’s been using social media since before it was called social media, and he trains people from around the world on how to make money through digital selling.
Here is what you’ll learn:
- How and why you must “get dressed before you get busy” and have a digital presence that will resonate with your ideal customer.
- How to “turn up the value before you turn up the volume” on your social media content.
- How to find your best customers, and how to ask for introductions to replicate them over and over after you deliver great service to them.
And so much more!

SPEAKER LAB – Cultivate Your Speaking Skills—Reason to be at Speakers Lab #25
Feedback—providing learners with information about their performance.
“Learners need endless feedback more than they need endless teaching.”—Grant Wiggins
Feedback is a skill. It takes time and talent to develop that skill.
NSA-Arizona provides an opportunity for you to have amazing support and feedback from skilled evaluators so that you can become the best speaker possible. We include feedback guidelines for the evaluators and speakers alike. This helps to provide supportive, constructive, and useful advice.
Is there an area of your speaking or your speaking business that would benefit from some feedback? Come join us at Speakers’ Lab and experience the valuable feedback and encouragement to help you improve in any area of the speaking business.
No RSVP is required to attend. We meet the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays from 9:30-11:45 A.M. at NSA headquarters. However, to speak at the Lab, you must be a chapter member in good standing.
We ask that you attend twice as a participant, before you sign up for time to speak. In a normal meeting, we have three 30-minute slots. Speakers can use the time to receive feedback and tips for a specific purpose, like trying out new material or trying a new form of speaking.
“Feedback may be a gift, but constructive feedback is an investment.” — Brad Boyson
To claim your spot, contact Natalie Sayer firstname.lastname@example.org. Please put “Speakers Lab” in the subject line.

WORD TRIPPER FROM THE PLATFORMBy Barbara McNichol
Do you ever confuse this word pair? Now you know the difference so you won’t get tripped up!
Imply, infer – The one who initiates a communication “implies” while a receiver or observer “infers.” “The reader inferred the politician’s actions were immoral. The editorial writer intended to imply that.”

SOCIAL MEDIA MARKETING—How to Effectively Use Hashtags
By Dan Shinder, Marketing Committee Chair
My hashtag is: #donthashtagjusttohashtag.
People incorrectly and ineffectively use hashtags on Facebook (FB), where they don’t work the same way as they do on Twitter. The #1 mistake of hashtag use on FB is “generic” hashtags, such as #professionalconsultant or #expertadvisor. The problem is those hashtags are not unique.
Two ways hashtags can be helpful on FB are campaigns and comparisons. Rather than be lost in an endless sea of sameness, use hashtags unique to your brand. In addition, use them to tie multiple posts for a campaign together, such as with #danshinderexpertadvisor. You can also use tags to compare which posts in a campaign are performing the best. Think of the hashtag like a sorting factor of an Excel spreadsheet.
