Welcome to the October 2019 issue of the NSA-Arizona News Flash!
President’s Message—What do you fear the most?
What is it you fear the most? Probably not lil’ zombies coming to your door with an insatiable need for sugar. But, their pending arrival is a reminder to ask the question about what you fear the most. Is it heights, death, dying, loss, or failure? Once identified, what can you do about it?
Last month, Dr. Jaime Hope explained how to use our innate abilities to leverage the stress our fears bring into a more powerful purpose. Dr. Marcia Reynolds gave us the tools to defuse the emotion of fear (and others) and re-wire our brains for peak performance. And, Antonio Valles was our first SoU (Stories of Us) volunteer. He inspired us, in the heat of it all, to trust ourselves and replace the "What If?" with a "Why Not?"
Not exactly a fear, but a very high level of concern hits me this time of year… the start of the 4th quarter. Are my business plans clear, focused, and strategically aligned to advance forward in fulfilling my purpose when the New Year arrives? Are yours? Do you know what you need to do and how to get it done?
Here are four ideas to take action on:
- Don’t miss the October 12 meeting where Jeffrey Hazlett breaks down how to build a speaking empire.
- Pack Lynne Wellish’s home at the next Living Room Forum for an insider’s grasp of getting the money monkey off your back.
- Refine your message with professional coaching at Speakers Lab.
- Make time to serve and connect with other chapter members—engagement inevitably creates growth.
The zombies are coming, as are new challenges, stresses, and possibilities. Dig deeper with your NSA-Arizona chapter. Let’s create and capture opportunities, fill our calendars and fulfill our missions… before another year sneaks up on us.

KEYNOTE SPEAKER—How To Grow a Speaking Empire with Jeffrey Hayzlett, CPAE
- How to book 150+ keynotes/year
- How we landed a prime-time television show
- How we leverage every show and every speech to get more events and more speeches
- How social media accounts for most of our leads and bookings
- How we use our branding to make sure we are seen in the best positioning
- How we turned a TV show into a Business Network
That is just some of it. Because the biggest thing we will do is answer any and all questions you may have about how we do things. Such as, what works and what has failed miserably. So bring your questions, any and all. Ask whatever you want and we will be glad to share. We will show you EVERYTHING— our marketing samples, our marketing plan, contracts, tweets, social media activation worksheets—anything and everything.
We won't have all the answers or the "right" way to do things. But what we do works for us and we are glad to share how we do it. And if there is something you can borrow or learn from, well, that is great!

September session had wonderful attendance and was led by NSA-Arizona board member and Dean of Candidate Program, Dr. Karen Jacobson. We focused on creating a speaker media kit, primarily a speaker one sheet that would help you gain visibility.
Our October 12, 2019 meeting will continue with business marketing. It will feature a special interview and Fireside Chat with NSA Hall of Fame Speaker, Jeffrey Hayzlett, CPAE. To be included, questions must be relevant to all speakers rather than just your personal platform. Please email by October 5, 2019.

SPEAKERS LAB—Cultivate Your Speaking Skills—Reason to Be at Lab #40
Leap of Faith
“Life is a gamble. There are no sureties. If you want something badly, you'd have to trust your heart and your instincts and then take a leap of faith.” —Alyssa Urbano
Speaking takes skill. It also takes courage.
NSA-Arizona Speakers Lab is known for providing valuable feedback from skilled evaluators. We also provide encouragement. We do this in a structured environment that includes guidelines both for evaluators and for speakers. This helps to provide supportive, constructive, and useful advice.
Is there an area of your speaking or your speaking business that would benefit from some feedback? Come join us at Speakers’ Lab and experience the valuable feedback and encouragement to help you improve in any area of the speaking business.
No RSVP is required to attend. We meet the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays from 9:30-11:45 a. m. at NSA headquarters. However, to speak at the Lab, you must be a chapter member in good standing.
We ask that you attend as a participant twice, before you sign up for time to speak. In a normal meeting, we have three 30-minute slots. Speakers can use the time to receive feedback and tips for a specific purpose, like trying out new material or trying a new form of speaking.
“Wings are like dreams. Before each flight, a bird takes a small jump, a leap of faith, believing that its wings will work. That jump can only be made with rock solid feet.” —J.R. Rim

WORD TRIPPER FROM THE PLATFORM
By Barbara McNichol
Do you ever confuse this word pair? Now you know the difference so you won't get tripped up!
Anxious, eager – “Eager” means exciting or enthusiastic; “anxious” means full of anxiety or worry. “I’m eager to hear the details of your trip.” “I have been anxious to learn about your travels ever since I heard about the airline strike.”
SOCIAL MEDIA MARKETING
By Dan Shinder
Facebook Live Length
Question: How long should a Facebook Live video be, and why?
Answer: Unlike other videos on Facebook, there are no algorithms associated with length that will squash your reach when it comes to Facebook Live. Facebook Live is all about interaction, not just talking at people. You have to be inclusive; make your audience part of it so that you are providing an experience. While they learn from you, and you learn from them.
Here are some tips:
- Have a planned length of 15 minutes, though be prepared to go an hour if the conversation stays alive!
- In your welcome, ask where people are watching from.
- Don’t just promote, be of VALUE.
- Keep it fun and do them regularly!
